Terawrizt ::: Re-Visited

Re-Visited is the latest album release from Dublin rapper Andy Brady aka Terawrizt, and is remixed by UK music producer Tony O'Mahony. The opening track "Life" one thing that stands out is that it's Irish Hip-Hop, with Terawrizt unashamedly been himself with his distinct Dublin accent, and his effortless and at time lazy sounding flow. With this combination he effectively reflects unemployment, political corruption, what he sees on a daily basis and what he has grown up around in his native city.

Another refreshing thing about the album is that Terawrizt throughout seems to be motivated by what is going on in society, and the social injustices we are facing as a nation, Terawrizt flow accompanied by some slick, smooth beats makes for a very enjoyable listen. The wordplay and rhyming on this album is also top notch.

One of the stand out tracks on this album is Uncivilized featuring Nu-centz and Redzer, which is aimed at the social problems faced in modern day Ireland, the beat and hook bares a distinct resemblance to some of Eminem's earlier offerings, yet it does not lose its very own authentic Irish feel, both Terawrizt and Nu-centz collaborate very well together and there is a natural, unforced flow threw-out the track. Another ear catching track is Grown Man Music, which again features Nu-centz.

For far too long Irish rap has been unfairly, and somewhat jokingly branded as "Paddy's" wanting to be "African Americans",(justified in some cases) but a listen to this offering might have some of those so called self appointed music "Purists" thinking again. (Not that they'd admit it).

One thing is for sure, Irish Hip-Hop is on the rise and if the standard of Re-Visited is anything to go by, then so too is Terawrizt.

AhrenB ::: The Storm

When this song popped up on YouTube I just had to listen and as an avid rap fan I'm so glad I did. Not in all my years have I listened to an Irish rapper as talented as Ahren B, born in London and raised in Sligo, Ahren has been writing his own material since the age of 14. His track called "The Storm" is only a taste of what is to come for this artist and I'm looking forward to what's next from Ahren. In this Ahern uses lyrics talking about his dreams and chasing them and leaving things in the past, this guy has a way with words. With beats so slick it's no surprise Ahren is building a huge fan base, Ahren B has uplifting music with sheer talent.

Deablo ::: 8 Track Tape

Deablo is a rapper hailing from county Down in Northern Ireland who completed his Debut album in June, the 8 track tape, containing mixes of hip hop and rock music. He says, “It is not a UK grime album it’s a new type of hip hop”. There are some catchy beats like “stay hungry, stay humble” and it’s a really well produced record by Timothy “Labrinth” McKenzie. Deablo uses his own accent when he raps, this is always a plus when it comes to UK and Ireland rappers, as some are criticized for using American accents.

The record fuses rock with dance and Spanish music, so there is a bit of variety. The album claims to be hip hop, but I think its more RnB/ pop on tracks such as “that voice” and “Everybody feat Labrinth”.  He does say though “its far from being your typical rap record”.

Deablo definitely doesn’t have that underground sound, which isn’t a good or bad thing, because he could probably break the mainstream market with his music. On the other hand he might be slated by underground emcees for not having that gritty RAW edge, which is respected by hardcore hip hop heads.

The song “Give me” features an English rapper making it a solid track and Amanda Murdock singing on “Miss you,” sounds sweet.  The songs containing rock beats do sound very similar; “Get up” “Till the lights go out” and “For the Music”.

It is a decent put together album and the sound is quality! As a major old school hip hop fan I did find my head bopping along to these tunes…so this album is a catch-22, you either dig it or you don’t. Have a listen to make up your own mind
